One of the exciting things about learning an instrument is being able to play in ensembles, both large and small. When I first started playing several years ago, the pieces I enjoyed playing the most were those which made all parts to be just as important as the 1st part. The writing style in this early Chamber Ensemble work for Flute Quartet and Piano aims to allow allow parts a chance to shine through.
“Antarctic Rhapsody” opens with an atmospheric setting which features passage and solo work for Flute 1.
A change in pace and character at Letter C conjures up images of penguins frolicking in the ice through the use of rhythmic off-beats.
A return to more tranquil surrounds occurs at Letter E - this time allowing Flute 2 and 3 to be featured in primary roles.
A flurry of semiquaver passage work for all Flute parts leads the work to a majestic conclusion.
In 2022, “Antarctic Rhapsody” received a studio performance by the Venezuelan composer and flautist, María Lamas in 2022; and also by the Indonesian flautist, Andika Candra.
